Research Any Stock in 5 Minutes
What AI Can (and Can't) Do for Stock Research
Claude's knowledge goes up to early 2025, so it won't know last week's earnings. But it knows years of financial history, business models, competitive dynamics, and industry context. Think of it as a brilliant research analyst who's read everything โ but hasn't checked the news today. For current prices and recent filings, you'll still use TradingView and ASX announcements.
The Stock Research Prompt
Try this with any ASX stock: "I'm researching [COMPANY NAME] (ASX: [TICKER]). Please give me: 1) What the company actually does in plain English, 2) Their main revenue streams and how they make money, 3) Key risks to the business, 4) Who their main competitors are, 5) What kind of investor this stock typically suits (growth, income, speculative), 6) Any major things I should research further before investing."
Try it now with a stock you already know โ you'll be surprised how much it knows.
Comparing Two Companies
Ask Claude: "Compare BHP and Rio Tinto as ASX investments. What are the key differences in their business models, dividend history, and exposure to different commodities? Which might suit a conservative long-term income investor better and why?" This kind of comparative analysis would take you an hour to do manually. Claude does it in 30 seconds.
๐ก Pro Tip
Always verify current prices, recent earnings, and ASX announcements separately. AI is brilliant for context and history โ not for today's numbers.
