โ Marketing for Founders

LinkedIn Marketing for B2B: Strategy
Why LinkedIn Is the Right B2B Channel for AI Consultants
LinkedIn has 1 billion members, 65 million of whom are decision-makers. For B2B consultants, it's the only social platform where the demographics of your audience align closely with the demographics of your buyers. Your ICP โ CTOs, VPs of Engineering, Heads of Data, CEOs of mid-market companies โ are on LinkedIn. They are not, in significant numbers, on TikTok or Instagram.
The opportunity on LinkedIn for founders is significant and currently underexploited. Despite LinkedIn's size, the vast majority of users never post. Estimates suggest fewer than 1% of users create original content. This means if you publish consistently, you have a structural advantage: a massive, relevant audience and very little competition for their attention.
LinkedIn's algorithm, unlike most social platforms, rewards content that generates conversation rather than just passive consumption. A post that gets 50 genuine comments will dramatically outperform a post that gets 500 likes, in terms of distribution. This means writing content that invites a response โ asking questions, taking a position, sharing a surprising finding โ is more valuable than writing polished corporate content that people admire but don't engage with.
For an AI consulting business, LinkedIn serves three functions: building awareness with a cold audience who don't know you yet; nurturing warm connections who know your name but aren't yet clients; and as a direct outbound tool for reaching specific prospects with connection requests and DMs. Each function requires a different approach, and we'll cover all three.
LinkedIn Profile Optimization for Inbound Leads
Your LinkedIn profile is your landing page. Every piece of content you publish sends people to your profile. If your profile doesn't clearly communicate what you do, who you help, and what to do next, you're converting traffic at near zero.
The most important profile elements to optimize:
Headline: Not your job title. A headline that communicates value. Instead of 'AI Consultant | Founder at XYZ,' try 'I help Series A SaaS companies embed AI features without hiring a data science team | Book a call โ'. Every keyword in your headline is searchable.
Banner image: Most people use the default. A custom banner with your value proposition, a professional image, and a call-to-action stands out dramatically and creates a professional first impression.
About section: Write in first person, not corporate-speak. Tell your story, explain who you help and how, share proof of results, and include a clear next step (link to calendar, newsletter, or website). The first 2 sentences are visible before the 'see more' click โ make them count.
Featured section: Pin your 3 best pieces of content or social proof. A client testimonial graphic, your best article, and your newsletter signup link are a strong combination.
Experience: Each role should describe outcomes, not activities. Not 'Provided AI consulting services to clients.' Instead: 'Led 12 AI implementation projects across e-commerce and SaaS clients, with measurable ROI documented in 9 of 12 engagements.'
โก Today's Action
Audit your LinkedIn profile against the five elements above. Rewrite your headline to include value, your target audience, and a call to action. Update it today.
๐ก Pro Tip
Add a calendar booking link (Calendly or Cal.com) prominently in your LinkedIn profile and About section. Inbound leads who are impressed by your content should be able to book a call without having to email you first.
