Landing Page Conversion โ€” Turning Visitors into Trials

The Five-Second Test and Above-the-Fold

A landing page has approximately 5 seconds to answer three questions: What is this? Who is it for? Why should I care? If a visitor can't answer those three questions immediately, they leave. Most SaaS landing pages fail this test because founders write for themselves (technical features) rather than for the customer (outcomes). The headline is your most important copy. It should state the outcome, not the product. Not 'BathCheck โ€” bathroom assessment software' but 'Conduct bathroom safety assessments 3x faster โ€” with reports your clients actually read.' The subheadline adds specificity: 'Designed for occupational therapists managing NDIS and aged care clients. Generate compliant PDF reports in minutes, not hours.' Above the fold must include: the headline and subheadline, a primary CTA button ('Start Free Trial' or 'Book a Demo' โ€” not 'Learn More'), a visual of the product in context (screenshot or short video), and social proof (number of assessments completed, customer logos, or a single strong testimonial from a recognisable organisation).

The Conversion Architecture Below the Fold

Below the fold, your job is to address every objection a qualified buyer might have before they reach the next CTA. Structure it as: Problem โ†’ Solution โ†’ Proof โ†’ How It Works โ†’ Pricing โ†’ FAQ โ†’ Final CTA. Proof is the most commonly underinvested section. Case studies for healthcare/accessibility apps should be quantitative: 'GreenTree Occupational Therapy reduced assessment documentation time from 45 minutes to 12 minutes per client.' Testimonials from recognisable professionals ('As a senior OT at [Major Aged Care Org]...') carry significantly more weight than generic testimonials. For B2B SaaS targeting institutions, include a security/compliance section โ€” NDIS providers and aged care facilities have data sovereignty concerns. Mentioning Australian data hosting, Privacy Act compliance, and your data handling practices reduces a major objection for enterprise buyers. If you're integrated with Xero or ClickUp, highlighting those integrations also reduces friction because buyers can see it fits into their existing workflow.

โšก Today's Action

Apply the five-second test to your current landing page: show it to someone who doesn't know your product for five seconds, then cover the screen and ask them: 'What does this product do? Who is it for?' Record their answers. If they can't answer accurately, your above-the-fold needs a rewrite.

๐Ÿ’ก Pro Tip

Use Microsoft Clarity (free) or Hotjar on your landing page to record visitor sessions. Watch 20 recordings. You will immediately see where people stop scrolling, what they click that doesn't work, and where they leave โ€” this is worth more than any copywriting course.
